1st Co. Beef is a small scale farm operated by Brad and Crystal Fuerst. Our mission is to produce healthy, natural and humanely raised 100% grass fed beef from birth to plate. We strive to supply our local community with the highest quality meat possible. Our cows are a mixture of registered Lowline Angus and Pinzgauer cross that are raised without added growth hormones, no antibiotics and no grain. To accomplish this, we are focused on management practices to help yield good growth rate and prevent illness by making sure the cows are in a clean environment, pasture management, population control, no contact with any other herd and calving on tall clean grass in late spring. Our cows graze on lush pastures for nine months of the growing season, and are supplemented good quality grass, alfalfa and clover hay which we bale ourselves within a 20 mile radius of our farm. The cows are raised to maturity from two to two and one half years of age for a premium juicy and flavorful beefy taste. We also utilize our expired bulls and momma cows for burger when their time on the farm has come to an end. This yields very high quality and flavorful ground beef since all of the premium cuts are blended together. We love all of our cows which we treat as humanely as possible often handing out extra treats of alfalfa with plenty of back and ear scratches. They live in a happy and stress free environment, and you can taste it in the meat!
